Child Height Predictor
Estimate your child's adult height from both parents' heights using the classic mid-parental method.
Add each parent's height and choose your child's sex. The calculator uses the mid-parental height formula, then shows a typical range around the estimate. It is a friendly estimate, not a promise.

Mid-parental height method
How it works
The mid-parental height method is one of the simplest ways to estimate adult height. It starts with the average of the mother's and father's heights. For boys, the calculator adds 13 cm (about 5 inches) to that average. For girls, it subtracts 13 cm (about 5 inches). The result is the mid-parental height, a central estimate for the child.
Real growth is wider than one number. The calculator shows a typical range of about 8.5 cm (3.3 inches) above and below the estimate. That range reflects normal variation, not a guarantee. Nutrition, sleep, general health, puberty timing and many genes all influence how tall a child becomes. A child can be taller or shorter than the range and still be perfectly healthy.
The formula works best when both parents' heights are measured accurately and fall within the usual adult range. This tool accepts 120–230 cm and converts feet and inches exactly. If a value is outside that range, it warns you gently rather than refusing to calculate.
Everything happens in your browser. We do not store parent heights, send them to a server, or link them to an account. Treat the result as a fun, educational estimate and talk with a pediatrician if you have questions about your child's growth.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the mid-parental height method?
It is a reasonable estimate for many families, but it is not exact. Most children land within a few centimetres of the prediction, and some land outside it. Growth is influenced by nutrition, health, sleep, puberty timing and many genes that a simple formula cannot see.
Why add 13 cm for boys and subtract 13 cm for girls?
The adjustment reflects the average adult height difference between men and women. It is a population average, not a rule for every family. The same idea is often written as plus or minus 5 inches in the imperial system.
What if one parent's height is outside the usual range?
You can still use the calculator. It accepts heights from 120 cm to 230 cm (about 3 ft 11 in to 7 ft 7 in) and shows a gentle warning outside that window. If a measurement is unusual, double-check it before relying on the estimate.
Can my child be taller than the predicted range?
Yes. The range is a typical spread, not a ceiling. Good nutrition, health and normal growth can all help a child reach their own potential, and some children simply follow a different growth pattern.
Does the calculator work in feet and inches?
Yes. Switch the unit toggle to imperial and enter feet and inches for each parent. The result can be shown in either unit, and the conversion uses the exact 2.54 cm per inch relationship.
Is this a medical test?
No. It is an educational estimate for curious parents. If you are worried about your child's growth, a pediatrician can measure growth over time and check for any medical concerns.
